black socks

shortly after I had moved from zofingen to basel, at the age of 20, I replaced all my white socks by black socks. I had owned a lot of argovian white socks, the ones with blue and red stripes at the top.

now I own a lot of black socks:

the problem with black socks is that they are effectively grey socks in all shades of grey. moreover, they vary in texture, suffer from different pilling, and grow or shrink over time. pairing them up is a pain in the neck (maybe taking a picture and writing a blog entry instead will sort them out automagically?).

another problem with black socks is that you can't wear them with white running shoes. thus, while people who wear white socks with a suit are always americans, us europeans get debunked by our black socks in sneakers.

Solution:

1) determine # of socks needed

2) buy this # of identical black socks

3) always wash socks (and running shoes) with a small amount of black dye

Think of it as reverse bleach

this will have the side benefit of turning all your other clothes black as well.

The perfect solution to this problem is a slight modification of Ben's suggestion.

1) see Ben

2) see Ben, but buy them in Coop. They sell pairs that you can actually stick together! Plus, they are Natura Line, and that's not only good for your Karma, but also for the environment.

3) see Ben

Trust me, it works. The picture of your socks shows approx. 10% of the socks I had before changing to the system described above.

And white running shoes suck anyways!

the combination of your solutions sounds very good indeed. since we're using cloth diapers, my karma is in pretty good shape already. on the other hand, you probably can't stock up too much (you never know when you need one of those transatlantic flights -- haven't seen you in a while, ben!)

I am sure they sold that in "Märthof" before they changed it into that terrible Interdiscount...
