in case anyone is short of christmas gift ideas or just wants to buy something fun:
lensbabies are selective focus SLR lenses which deliberately cause images to be out of focus. they work purely manual, which means that you control your sweet spot by pushing, pulling, and bending the lens body. a quite refreshing approach, which leads to great results!
this tutorial made me visit the lensbabies site (once more via reddit). it's an excellent read if you are interested in digital image processing and are not a photoshop expert yet.
